so as the country gets ready to lose another 6bn in essential services it seems we all have to feel the pain except for our cushty political elite!!

they are lookin at a 1% decrease in spending in the dail and have agreed unanimously to a pay rise and increases in expense allowances!!

it really does make for disgusting reading

    what's your take on it?

I will not get upset... [Takes very deep breath and exhales SLOWLY...]

lol is the only way to describe this.

Its like they are trying to cause a revolution TBH.

Maybe they want to bump it up so when they do call the IMF/EU in, they can reduce it to this years levels and look like they did something :P

Anyway the worst thing is it has no opposition. I'm guessing there will be some spit in the food if they reduce the catering staff wages while bumping up their own...

thats unreal, and not a single objection. proves that no matter what any of them say to us in public they're really just laughing all the way to the bank.

Constitutionally, how do you throw them out of power now?

What a pack of self serving w*****s. All of them. Pay for staff on the ground floor will come down, like the bar staff, and theirs will remain the same and/or go up in certain areas?

All politicians, of any party, are the same bunch of self interested cute hoors.

Their starting pay is that of senior management in SMB's, not middle management as they claim.

This just makes me very angry. I hope that their attempt to put it out with the trash fails and everyone finds out.

Problem is, if everyone is at it... Who do you vote for? Assuming you're a sane person and aren't looking at the hard, hard left?

Say what you want about the hard left, but Joe Higgins doesn't pay himself more then the average industrial wage.

And I vote for him. But that's because I'd like one voice in the Dail that makes sense when attacking on these issues. But alternative to government? No.

They don't seem to give a shíte about the constitution, why should we? We may as well just tear it up and start again. And I don't think there is actually a way to get them out. We have no separation of powers like in the U.S. Who would call for an impeachment? This is basically how they've managed to do what they've done unopposed.

I don't think anyone in the Socialist party sitting in the Daíl or County Council takes their full salary. Those crazy leftist bastards! :p

Ring up good auld Joe! Sure it cant fail.

Seriously though, we must be the laughing stock of Europe. Irish people will sit back and take their pain while the gimps in the Dail sit back and snigger "cant touch me".

Fingleton wasint running an avoidance school somewhere was he?

Is there still that article in the constitution that lets a certain number of signatures demand a referendum/election?

If this kind of corruption continues with the new government, that could be an option.

I suppose joe duffy is now our only option.

he is a man who can understand the plight of the working man.

Dan Boyle says it's not true. From his Twitter.
News to me that Oireachtas costs are to increase. Budget has to cut salaries and expenses and by more than the general rate of cuts.
The Dáil and Seanad cannot vote a pay increase for itself.

Those are worrisome responses.. that would be a critical check and balance to your system of governance.

Do you happen to know which article?

I give up. Utterly. I was out of the country for a few days. I should have stayed.

Does anyone know if you can surrender your passport?

(I know its Drennan in the Sindo btw and therefore a form of govt press release, just annoyed)

I read the following article with interest:

    http://www.independent.ie/opinion/columnists/john-drennan/john-drennan-divided-dail-unites-to-give-itself-a-pay-rise-2410792.html

Is it true that EVERY party and EVERY member agreed to the above ?

If so, you can say goodbye to my vote, and I will simply choose to emigrate from this corrupt cesspit of a country.

I look forward to hearing from party leaders indicating that the above article is incorrect, and that they have forcefully opposed raises in already-objectionable expenses.

If I do not hear from you, you can say goodbye to having my vote, and I will actively oppose all of your self-interested parties when the long-overdue election arrives.

P.S. Just noticed that it's the Sindo, so their usual policy has to be taken into account......anyone got a grain of salt to go with the cheese ?

Sorry, was a vague memory from studying the foundation of the state. That was an article in the 1922 constitution (in articles 47 & 48), was removed in 1937.
