Usually a sign that the car is burning oil or that water has mixed with the oil and possible head gasket issue.

Will its cost a lot to fix it?

Pop the oil cap off the engine cover and have a look see if the theres a "white fatty gunk"

around the inside of the cap, that and take out the dipstick and see if theres any

water on it. Sure sign of head gasket failure.

Price for a headgasket varys form mechanics(some are worse than others)

so shop around. My guess would be between €450 and €600.

    Hope that helps.

Isn't while smoke also a sign that the mix is too rich and you're churning petrol vapour out the exhaust?

if head gaskett is gone the car will be boiling check for water coming out of the exaust

Thats another sign, if the engine temp in up and being running for a while alrite. Water trickle out the exhaust and white vapour smoke( water from the engine and the white smoke as the coolant is being burnt)

Hopefully its not the case, keep us updated OP

No, then it would be black.White is water, blue is oil.

You changed a cylinder? Can you elaborate on that?

Ever heard of Steel-seal? I used it on my car and it's running grand ever since. Sorted out the head-gasket problem & saved me a packet on the mechanic. I used it on a Peugeot 306 and it worked grand. It's known not to work on any BMW's, but they guarantee it 100% on any other car. Its available in a few places in Ireland but I ended up ordering it from the UK. Check it out though, might be worth a gamble.
