iPhone Question

    Hi,

I've inherited an iphone that appears to be unlocked - when I insert my existing O2 Sim card I am given the opportunity to unlock using my pin, which I can successfully complete.

None of my contacts are there and I can't make any calls, let alone anything else.

Next to vesion in the 'about' section it says 4.1, and has firmware version 05.14.02 installed.

    Any idea whats wrong ?

    Cheers,
    RIchard

you need to import your contacts from the sim to the phone.

    Settings - Mail, Contacts, Calenders.
then down the bottom theres an import contacts button.

Does it say o2 in the top left corner, if it's blank it's probably not unlocked

Thanks all. Actually, I mustve missed this the first time round, but it says SIM failure after Ive entered my pin (though Im still then into the main menu page)., and theres no O2 in the corner.

whats the best way to unlock then ?

Have you connected the phone to a computer running iTunes with the O2 SIM inserted?

Just tried connecting to my laptop running iTunes with the O2 SIM inserted, and it says ' There is no SIM card installed in the iPhone you are attempting to activate'. Does this just tell me that I need to unlock it ? If so, how ?

no, sounds like the sim is inserted incorrectly as if the phone is locked, it will pop up a different messege, something along the lines of this sim card is not supported, please insert a valid sim card..... or there abouts.

the pop up you have is a different issues to a locked pop up messege if you get me?

I see what youre saying kceire. Guil, looks like its a new sim I might need - the current one is old, perhaps antique, as it still has 'Esat Digifone' on it.. spoke to O2 and they're sending me out an upgraded one. I'll see what happens once I get that.

    Cheers folks,
    Richard
