The air traffic controller was later murdered by the husband/father of victims on the flight.
Grieved by the loss of his family, Vitaly Kaloyev held Peter Nielsen responsible for their deaths. He killed Nielsen at his Kloten home, near Zürich, on 24 February 2004.[20][16] Police arrested Kaloyev at a local motel not long after the murder, and he was subsequently convicted of the crime in 2005. He was released on 8 November 2007 because his mental condition was not sufficiently considered in the initial sentence. After his release, Kaloyev was infamously dubbed a "hero" in North Ossetia. In January 2008, he was appointed deputy construction minister of North Ossetia.[21]

    EDIT: Why meh?

This has become an interesting debate. I remember this happening. Initialy the report into the accident didnt mention that atc had the delay in their screens due to a service being carried out at the time.

Before the crash ever happend pilots both in Russia and Europe/the US were always trained to follow ATC instructions. After the crash was when the law and legislation changed that pilots should follow tcas instructions however that was 3 years later.

*mod hat on* Now unless there is factual evidence to support the stoner alugations.
    Please respect the dead.
    *mod hat off*

Just for clarification, the training given to Pilots in Europe/USA was before and remains afterwards to follow TCAS Instructions.

Any insinuation about the ATCO and narcotics (as quoted in reply #4 above) is boardering on libel, and I would respectfully request that any unsubstanciated nuance is completely removed from this thread.
    Thank you

What are you lads on about. A game? Or an actual mid air collision where the air traffic controller was murdered by a relative of a person killed on the Russian plane?

I am referring to this http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/6977136.stm

You can not libel the dead, it is not legally possible.

I am aware of the law, but was essentialy asking that the ATCOs name not be dragged through the mud.
Thats why I used the term bordering.
The border in this example is the fact that he was murdered, and cannot defend his name against these stupid accusations.
