i must say i'm finding it hard to get a graduate job out there. i'm curious about the fas work placement programme for graduates. has anyone applied for one of these positions? i realise the positions are unpaid, yet i am curious just how fierce the competition is for these places?

without sounding bad....... even if the competition id high. will it stop you applying for it? you need the experience.

apply for it and hope for the best. keep your fingers crossed. there is no need these days to worry about competition. just make your application the best it can be. Thats all you can do.

its just i'm weighing up whether i'll emigrate. quite deflated at the lack of job opportunities and i'm thinking the wpp1 might be my last chance to stay on in this country.

if the competition is very fierce then i may be forced to emigrate indeed.

i was just curious on the uptake in the wpp1

i know quite a few people doing it.

if you really wanted to emigrate you would not be considering the wpp

so you have nothing to lose but a whole lot to gain by applying for it.

so what i am saying is that if people worried about the competition ion job applications the whole place ould not do anything.

before you leave try the program and see where it gets you. you can always emigrate if thats what you want. but the wpp might be what you need to stay here.

Semi state agencies like FAS and the newly launched 'JOBFIT' are responsible for robbing the nation of working class jobs, why does the government still bother giving to these vampire semi state agencies, when they could have more full time tax pay return jobs boosting up the revenue..The dail between them do not HAVE A BRAIN.

And yes you must have heard the rumours the competition in the race to the bottom courtesty of FAS and JOBFIT is indeed fierce hope you dont get ur fingers burned or your CV in shreds. There all ex cons dont smear your name.

The FAS courses have not managed to get one 'graduate' hired..

The new JOBFIT is another scam robbing the public of what could be paid jobs.
Why would any let say supermarket bother hiring you when they can get your free labour.

FAS and JOBFITis sucking up the jobs market from all of us,while returning very little by way of revenue..

Angela kerins on the other hand life is sweet for her she gets to hold down three jobs!

And i hear she is in with FF while other members of the jobfit board are in with FG ..respectively:D

The race to the bottom is just that the bottom

    cheers for reply martron

your right i'll just have to apply and see what happens

i guess i was hoping i might learn that the uptake on the wpp1 was slow to give me a bit of a morale pick up

would hate to have to emigrate, would happily do a wpp1 placement to get that experience

if you do get a wpp job and get some experience and then decide to emigrate the experience you have from the wpp job will help you get a job where ever you go.

as a graduate without experience you can get caught in a catch 22. employers mighten higher you cos you dont have experience and you cant get experience cos employers wont higher you!

i cant help you anymore about the wpp as ive never done it. nothing stops you looking for full time work while you're on the wpp though.

this may be a reality check for you - you are not guaranteed of being placed in a WPP role just because you apply for it.

    1) there are going to be a lot of people applying for the more attractive ones. some of the applicants will have relevant experience some are people who are applying for every job under the sun.

    2) companies aren't typcially recruiting these people into business critical roles. i.e. they may not be in huge hurry to take the WPP person on so the recruitment process is probably slower than for normal jobs.

if you have some relevant experience to the role and you persist in contacting the company showing interest in the position then you have a better chance of getting the position.

but if you were thinking it would be a foregone conclusion that you would get the job just because there's no pay then you would prob be mistaken.
