what dog are you thinking of getting?, what type of hunting do you do?

A pointer cant really be thought to point it should be a natural reaction, best advice is have a look at the dogs you think would suit your type of hunting, then speak to as many people you can that hunt that breed

im training a red setter at the moment, all you need to train is a good recall and stop/stay, you cant train a dog to hunt, they either have the drive or they dont, iv heard springers are a good first dog

Basic obedience & training should for ESS be aimed for that is a dog that can be cast-off [sent away to hunt/retrieve] stopped [via whistle]
steady at heel & can be basically directed left or right.
Today there are lots of DVD available that demonstrate it quiet clearly, also on you-tube can be found a host of training video clips from individuals/trainers & companies like shooting times.
