I have scanned in RTE digital from Three Rock mountain. I have a Nordmende TV and it said it found six digital stations. However, all I get is sound and no pictures.
When I check under service, it says no signal and no quality.
I get good quality analog from the same areal.

Does it have a digital tuner, and is it HD & MPEG4 capable?

I made a slight mistake. I tuned in the digital transmission on my Philips DVDR5570H player recorder. It is HD and the digital is only described as DVB-T.

If you get a list of channels and sound but no picture it is a UK spec device that will not work here, bring it back to the shop for a refund.

The HD reference is actually HDD - Hard Disk, nothing to do with High Definition. It's a basic UK Freeview box , unsuitable for DTT in Ireland.

Philips told me it is a MPEG2. Why have they creaded a setup, which is not compatible with it?

The box you have is for the UK Market not the Irish one, a Freeview (UK) DTT (unless it's one of the new Freeview HD) box will not work with the Irish DTT system.
