I'm sure we've all seen the news today with three officers injured by a thrown pipe bomb whilst investigating an armed robbery in West Belfast. One of them is still in hospital with serious injuries to his arm. I'm sure I speak for everyone here in wishing him a swift recovery.

How do others heading to G'Ville in December feel about this? Undoubtedly there will be one or two calls to recruitment on Monday turning down the course invitation.

I too wish him and indeed his colleagues a swift and full recovery.

This does not deter me from wanting to join up in the slightest. People like this are nothing more than gangsters who simply try to execute a idealist agenda which is not representitive of the people they claim to represent. Every country has criminals and NI is no different I am under no illusion, these people are nothing more than criminals who use the past 30/300 years as an excuse to help keep their conscience clear. Such people have absolutely nothing to contribute to the community and should be dealt with by the full force of the law.

People who try to execute members of the police force for whatever gain is understandable I suppose in some twisted way - but those who show reckless disregard for civilians including women and children are nothing more than filth.

This does not deter me from wanting to join up in the slightest.

They lobbed a grenade or a coffee jar bomb through the door after the bookies was robbed. From a motorbike apparently.

Could be a significant shift in dissident(if it was them) operations. Rather than bombing the stations this could be their new tactic. Provos did a bit of that in a different time.

Does that not worry you at all?

Best wishes to the injured officers, and wishing them all a speedy recovery!

If anything this has made me chomp at the bit even more. I try not to let emotive issues like this effect me, but sometimes it is difficult. Totally agree with you tv that there is no room in society for these scum bags, but there will always be an element who support and condone their actions which unfortunately is indicative of pockets of our society.

I really hope this does not make people question their applications as that is what these gangsters want, a return to a fractured society, giving them an excuse to continue with their crimes.

Yes , best wishes to the injured officers.

I hope nobody decides to drop out because of this attack - makes me more determined if anything.

It would be foolish to say it doesn't worry me to some extent but things like that in no way whatsoever will change my opinion of the job I do or the desire I have to do it.

I think we all know what we are getting into. Or at least have a good idea. We have all read the papers and seen the news. This is our country. We want it to be a peaceful prosperous place. There is alot of work to do. We have big shoes to fill. These acts are terrible, may the officers hurt be back to work soon. They are in the line of duty as we soon will be. Head up, shoulders back. Being a police officer makes a lasting difference. What an honour.

I also hope it's not too long before the 3 officers are back to work.

There is no way this type of cowardly act will deter me. In fact the complete opposite.

Shortly after I missed out on the merit list for C15 there was an article in the Belfast Telegraph based around a letter from an officer recruited under the new process. Basically this officer was saying that if they had had any idea that there would continue to be attacks against police they would never had signed up. Well to say I was angry is an understatement Mrs Dees had to call out a couple of Lion Tamers from the zoo before I was allowed in polite company again. My thinking was that if you are going to sign on to stand the thin blue (well dark green actually) line then you have to expect that there are people who want to hurt you.

Nailing my colours firmly to the mast, I am going to be a second generation officer after passng out in mid April, and having spent my childhood checking under the car for devices and changing how I went to school every so often, and seeing every story of an officer getting attacked will only spur me on to be the best I can be, so that I can go out there and help catch the scumbags responsible and maybe in time play a part in making this a police service people like the officer above can join without fear of attack

I don't even know where to begin about this...

Absolute scum bags! Not only did they attempt to murder police officers, there was a crowd gathering (as people do when things go on...), so they could have killed any member of the local community, including children! They don't care at all!!!

It makes me even more determined to join, and catch those brain washed ignorant so-called freedom fighters of ireland and make them pay for their crimes. Their community don't even want them! The south of ireland don't even want them!!! Pointless loss of innocent lives is all they are about! Well they are gonna rot in hell for what they do!!!

Complete cowardice that will achieve absolutely nothing.
I share delancey42s view, if anything this makes me more determined, there is no place or excuse for this behaviour and I really hope (as I'm sure you all do) to contribute to eliminating acts like this.
Best wishes and a swift recovery for the injured officers.

Turns out it was a grenade from a bicycle. Or maybe the reports I am reading are wrong?

We all wish the officers involved a swift recovery and we hope the criminals are brought to justice. There is no place anywhere for acts like this.
