Has anyone seen either? They are the same movie aren't they? Which is the better made? I presume Rec is in Spanish with subtitles. Quick look at wikipedia says the remake Quarantine did not get as good reviews as Rec

Ditto. REC is brilliant, while Quarantine is worth a giggle or two.:D I wasn't too hot on REC 2 though, peeks way too soon. So...

    REC (8/10)
    Quarantine (6/10)
    REC 2 (5/10)

Watch [REC] first and then the sequel as it very good as well and wraps up the story nicely

watch the American version then but it is basically a carbon copy but with yer wan from Dexter

    Need you even ask? [REC]

Oh - on a related note - I was in Easons in Galway yesterday and I noticed that Let the Right One In is now called "Let Me In" with the proper title in much smaller letters below it.

Have you seen the trailer for "Let Me In"? It looks like horrible Americanized version of "Let The Right One In". I hate how they have to ruin good films such as [REC] and "Let The Right One In" for the sake of a few bob.

I saw Quarantine on sky a while back, and it really was not great at all! I would avoid and just watch Rec instead.

Quarantine is just a shot-for-shot copy of [rec]. Pretty much everything is the exact same as [rec] even down to the sets.

Quarantine's semi-famous faces are little more than distractions and the actors did a better job in [rec] anyway.

The cast of [rec] looked like they were normal people stuck in a building, whereas the cast of quarantine looked like they were actors stuck in a building.

[rec] had much better camerawork, boasted more effectively composed shots throughout, and exhibited a much more ominous general atmosphere.

[rec] also tells us a lot more about each of the characters and about what was actually happening throughout each stage of the movie. Quarantine's habit of flashing the "on camera" lighting on and off repeatedly for no reason gets very annoying.

All that despite [rec] being 14 minutes shorter than Quarantine which amazed me when I checked the real lengths for both films.

[rec] is without doubt the better movie for me.

REC! I'm a big fan of watching the original before the remake (if at all) and I found REC to be brilliant. Watching Quarantine, it's extremely similar in look, dialogue etc. Since i'd seen the original, i could only keep thinking that these American actors are re-enacting REC. Bugged the hell out of me!

I'm sure Quarantine is a good remake but I really enjoyed REC; I'd urge you to check out the original. There's some parts of REC I found actually scary and that's a rarity in my cinemagoings!

I'd say you're almost always better off with the original. [REC] is just great, the sequel indeed less so, but the original is some intense horror awesome. I haven't seen Quarantine, and by all accounts it seems very similar, but the original is absolutely fine as it is so probably not worth your time with the American one.

OP, I haven't seen 'Quarantine' but '[REC]' is a must see.
Have you seen the trailer for "Let Me In"?

Have you seen the film 'Let Me In'? Do you regularly judge films upon their trailers?

    Gibberish.

I'll probably watch it at some stage, as I'm sure most will, but I highly doubt that it can live up to the original, which was fantastic!

Side point but please watch Let The Right One In (Original Swedish version) first. I'm sure the remake is decent enough. I haven't seen Let Me In but the trailer of it looks faithful.

The whole point of watching foreign film is to see different countries' take on all aspects of filmmaking, to know that all around the world, people love stories as much as we do. It feels like a different film, and that's great.

To anyone who doesn't read subtitles -- nobody says anything when there's action going on, you can read much faster than people can talk, and if the writing's good, soon after starting you should forget that you're reading subtitles. Please give it a go!
