    Hi all,

I suffer from social phobia. I am a very shy person and have been suffering for years. In work I can't help but speak low and mumble so that others cannpt hear me. I go red if people look at me. If I don't go red, my face gets very uncomfortable and embarrassed.

I can across this course and was wondering if anyone here has attended it and has an opinion on it. It is £550 for 12 weeks, 1 session per week. I thinkthe session is a group session.

Does anyone here think it's a con and is aimed at vulnerable? Has anyone here suffered the same problem and 'fixed' it?

    Any suggestions are welcome.

    Thanks

i did not attend this course but i suffer/suffered from the same problem. had a look at the website there....it does look good and it does have a lot of similarities with the approach that i took to overcome my SA. BUT it would be impossible for me to say for definite that it is not a CON. obviously talking to someone who has attended the clinic is the best route to go down which is obviously what your trying to do.

even though it does use a lot of the methods i used, i am a little wary about others. not that i'm saying their a con but i'd be unsure whether they would be better than the ones i used.

there are internet help sites for people with SA with forums where you could ask if anyone has attended the clinic. i'd say the UK sites would be the best considering the clinic is in the UK.

This is an Irish organisation with some branches around the country. Properly qualified CBT therapists can be found in the HSE (free of charge). See here (member of...CBT) or here (Republic of Ireland)
