The criminalisation of self medication and self exploration

How did they manage to make self medication and attempting to control your own neurochemistry a crime? My granny has been in constant pain for the past 2 years and all her doctor will prescribe her is Difene, an antiinflammatory drug which she claims has extreme side effects and is causing bad stomach cramps and does not even alleviate the arthritis pain. Since she doesn't have a computer and has trouble reading since shes dyslexic, I've been doing research for her and concluded that the best analgesic she can be taking is cannabis. I gave her some to try is and her pain miraculously went away. The only part about this my granny is uncomfortable with is the fact that she has to become a criminal in order to live the rest of her life without pain.

Most people these days agree that cannabis should at the very least, be available via prescription but why is it still completely illegal? That is just 1 substance with an array of beneficial properties which the government does not take into consideration. I don't touch cannabis because I'm one of the few that is prone to cannabinoid induced psychosis but the idea that other people are deprived of the substance simply because it can induce psychosis in people like me is insane. Psychoactive substances affect everyone differently, the negative effects of a substance may outweigh the benefits of it for me but it may be the other way around for someone else. Anyone else had enough of this prohibition bull****?

Synthetic THC is known as dronabinol and is available. Problem with it is psychosis development over time, hence there is legislation to protect the ill informed public.

There are lots of other options for pain relief apart from difene. I'd suggest your gran see another doctor - perhaps one with an interest in pain management.

It is illegal partly because big pharma wants it that way. The last thing they want is a plant that is extremely useful for pain and other medical problems being made freely available to the public. They want people using their products.

Why would people take half of the drugs they sell if cannabis with its low side effects was available?
