    Is there a visual difference between the two, I seen a laser that could be passed thru a d.glazed panel before but think it only checked weather or not the pane was low e coated,

    Is there a test (non destructive smart ass) to check?

    I have my suspensions about my new windows!

    Thanks,

    hi there,

    Not always but usually you will find a code printed on the aluminium or thermix spacer between the glass. It will be a series of numbers and letters.

    Example:

    4mm-16Ar-4mm 1.1Wm2K 756 x 850

    in this instance the 4mm is the glass size, the 16Ar is the size of cavity and the gas, etc.

    Laminated safety glass will usually be something like;

    33.1mm or maybe 6.4mm

    Toughened glass is usually indicated by letters after the glass size;

    example: 4mmTg

    Hope that helps.

    It's also usually stamped on the glass in one of the corners

    toughened glass is heat treated and if look at an angle in light has a slight wavey effect on it. It also feels different when you push your fingers along it.

    Ordainary float glass is perfectaly flat and smooth.

    Look out for stamps in the corners.

    Yes there is a hand held machine that tells you all this but I think it cost about 700e (saw it in a trade mag a few years back)

    this simple one above is £109.
