Why did I pay less PAYE this month?

I got an extra €125 in my payslip this month. The difference seems to have come from paying less PAYE. Any ideas why I might have paid less? Will I have to pay more than my normal amount next month?

There could be any number of reasons. Did you work less hours this month or extra hours last month? This may have led to you having unused tax credits. They balance out as the year continues and will enable you to get tax back (i.e pay less tax in current period).

If it was a reduction in PAYE it could be because you received additional tax credits e.g. rent credit? Refuse charges credit? If married, did you transfer credits from your spouse?

If it was because of PRSI or Health Levy reductions, you stop paying PRSI after your earnings reach €75036 per annum.

You can download my spreadsheet calculator at http://taxcalc.eu/monthlyss if you want to check the calculations.

Were you out sick more than 3 days? I was a couple of months ago and ended up getting paid more as my PRSI class changed.

Yup this must be it! I was out sick for a week. How will this affect my future PAYE?

I think it just goes back to normal the next month. The strange thing is though that you can go to your doctor and get a form to claim money off the social for anything over 3 days you were out. I haven't a clue how it works, I still haven't got my form, but your doc should know.
