Found this interesting. From the facebook page.
    Limerick Strongman Club
Irelands Most Powerfull Man will be taking place early next year and is open to all strongmen, powerlifters, bodybuilders and olympic lifters. The events will be squat, bench press, log press, deadlift, clean and jerk, loading medley. All events are max weight like a powerlifting comp you have 3 lifts in each event to make up your total, cats are Junior, Seniors under 105kg and over 105kg, Masters, Womens and overal

Need to re-title the event Ireland's most awesome man.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 21,981 ✭✭✭✭Hanley

    Humour just isn't funny anymore...

The name of the comp's just wrong. Ireland's most powerful man is probably Ireland's strongest weightlifter.

The event above tho is probably a good test of "Ireland's best all around strength athelte"!!

You'd need new events.. like scoring twins, and some sort of wilks points based on alcohol consumed between lifts divided by bodyweight. And a general knowledge round.

I'm in. L and Hanley are too. Liam isn't... he can't drink to save his life :pac:

That's a lot of lifting in the one day!

It's a good idea - these shorter grand prix style events where the whole comp takes place over 4 hours or so is great for the spectators but hard work for the competitors!

No comeback really other than I'll prove myself on the 11th.

Your event sounds more like a frat party dude

Loading medley to my mind would be picking up different shaped objects of different weights and loading them onto some sort of a raised platform.

I have started a different thread to give the details and answer question, i didnt realise some one else had poeted info on the event and i am gratefull for them doing so,

The Medley will be a loading race with 8 objects being loaded from the ground to a plynth/stage/ The objects will range in size and weight but will be things like sand bags, kegs and steel objects.

The weight will have to be carried aprox 5m to the satge so this event is about cardio, speed and strength.

This is obviously an original concept for a comp and we have treied to come up with a good event and a good set of ground rules.

We are open to any suggestions you have that would improve the competition.

    Thanks

    Gary

the idea behind this is great.

not a big fan of the execution.

itsallabouththel i would be very interested to know how you would run it ?

Baring in mind for it to be successfull you need to appeal to bot powerlifters, strongmen , weightlifters and everybody else.

We welcome ideas and we are willing to change anything if it improves the competition.

Seems to work on the assumption that all powerlifters are equipped lifters

I reckon go for it as is. Collect feedback for the next time it's run. There's a youtube channel called olympic dragons where you'll see people train for this kind of thing. No chance i'm gonna see this kinda stuff where I train.

Hey weeman are you allowing straps for the deadlift segment?Just a thought like I think most strongman comps allow them then you wouldn't have those pansy bodybuilders scared of tearing biceps with a mixed grip;)i kid i kid.

Also is the log lift a strict press or with leg drive?

To my eyes, it appeals to Equipped Powelifters and Strongmen.

Raw lifters are getting the short end of the stick, how are they supposed to compete with the lads in suits?

Wraps and Belt and they'd have a decent chance.

I honestly don't think you'll get a single weightlifter signing up for this either.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 158 ✭✭weeman2

Remmy no straps are allowed in the deadlift, the log lift is strongman rules so you can use leg drive but not clean and jerk it

    itsallaboutthel
we cant force people to compete, this competition is open to everybody if weightlifters think they are good enough then they will compete.

Too many people just want a trophy you should be lifting against yourself and not worry about what others are doing. I myself will be lifting raw it doesnt bother me that some guys i will be up against will be wearing suites. As somebody else points out not all powerlifters wear suites, some strongmen wear them also.

The guys that turn up will have a great day at a great comp and frankly they are the type of people who are the future for this comp, guys who dont care what other guys wear they come lift hard and do there best.
The guys that come and compete will be the only ones that dictate how this competition moves forward, its year one it will be a good comp and i hope i will see you all at it.

That's fair enough, i can see there's o point arguing.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 158 ✭✭weeman2

    itsallabouttheL

its always worth argueing or in this case voicing your opinions.

I do think there is alot being made of the suites, but i am very reluctant to ban them however i am very strongly considering having a raw section same catagories but 100% raw no suites, wraps supports ect. If people want it i will do it, i want this to be a comp that bridges gaps between the different strength sports.

How do you think this would go down?

It would also help decide how the comp would progress in future years.

I will also put everything to a vote at this comp where every competitior can vote on events, rules, equipment to be used ect for the following year.

In the future I would love to see it go 2 day eventually with a snatch and ketllbell being added to make 8 events 4 each day

100% Raw please! there is a massive massive following of raw lifting in this country. Look at the IDPFA if you need proof and thats just one example!

You will still have your big names and big lifts in the equipped....but there is nothing better than seeing some big nut job smash some big weigths raw!

edit : also alot of the younger lifters in ireland seem to lift raw...so this might get a better entry into the jnrs for you

    just my 2 cents!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,025 ✭✭✭d'Oracle

I kind of agree with L.

It seems like the aim is to appeal to all sorts of lifters, but allowing suits will give a clear advantage to equipped lifters.

If, as weeman says, people should "just be lifting against themselves" then whats the point in having a competition?

Why not just go to a gym with the equipment and do it?
Or just do a super-total or TSC.

Granted a lot of entrants may just be lifting against themselves but if its a comp, why offer an unfair advantage to equipped lifters. If you split them off, you won't see much of a comp in the equipped section.

I certainly wouldn't want to watch a comp where equipped lifters lifts count against unequipped lifters. Unless you get Kolkaev to turn up...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,348 ✭✭✭the drifter

    from the facebook page
Ok there seems only one way to settle this we are now adding a raw section with juniors, seniors, masters over and under 105kg for men and women the events are the same the only difference is raw lifters are not allowed use suites, wraps, supports ect chalk and belts only

    Gary i salute you!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,333 ✭✭✭✭itsallaboutheL

    Excellent

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 158 ✭✭weeman2

thanks for the suggestions lads we will do anything we can that will enhance this comp.

We may not get it 100% right year one but we will do our best/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,800 ✭✭✭The Guvnor

Raw or not Raw would not bother me.

I think the single most important thing in all these events in competitor safety - i.e. not pulling stuff or lifting stuff on gravel or uneven surfaces etc.
