Tax relief for children,

    Hi i am wonder what form i fill out to claim tax relief for my 2 children. I am not married or a single parent i am common law. I can not seem to find and tax relief form for this.
    Any info would be much appreciated.

    Can't see how you ended up here, you're asking a personal tax question.

    I don't believe there is tax relief for children any more, if I recall correctly it was withdrawn because people on higher tax bands were getting more benefit than people on lower incomes who paid tax at a lower rate so the benefit is all given out now as child benefit which is the same allowance for everyone.

    Tax relief for children ended many years ago save for relief in respect of an incapacitated child.
    Are you perhaps confusing tax relief with Child Benefit also known as Childrens Allowance ?

    If you're not entitled to a married tax credit and you have a child living with you for all or part of a year then you may be entitled to a lone parent tax credit.

    Generally, though, if you're cohabiting you aren't eligible for this.

    There's a post in the Taxation forum which looked quite closely at this credit in the last couple of days. If I knew how I would put link here!
