On-phone GPS

Recently got a new phone with built in GPS.
Gets signal and works perfectly while in my pocket as I'm riding.
Does anyone use a phone in this way for GPS?
I'm thinking wearing one headphone connected to the phone or else maybe one of those Bluetooth handsfree earpiece things just to hear the instructions from the phone?
Has anyone tried this or does anyone wear headphones/earpiece under a helmet?

I wear earphones for music when riding, don't bother with GPS as I rather just checking the map every so often and concentrate on my riding

I use an iphone in a special water proof pouch that has magnets and attaches to your tank.

    Works perfectly fine.

My experience of GPS systems is that if you can't both look and listen, you'll have to get used to the phrase "Turn around when possible".

    Not really.

I use Google Maps on my phone. Enter destination, it makes you a route all you gotta do is take note of what turn offs are where

Exactly, I familiarise myself with the end destination directions and wing it on the bits in between. Much more entertaining especially with the Manly "no I will not turn around" and "no I will not ask for directions" rules.
