    From today's Indo:
    http://www.independent.ie/national-news/cowens-brother-lands-dogs-job-2406939.html
TAOISEACH Brian Cowen's brother has been appointed to a new post with the Irish Greyhound Board. He went for the job after the slowdown in his auctioneering and valuing business following the collapse of the property market.
Barry Cowen, who is a Fianna Fail councillor for the Cowen family's home town of Clara in Co Offaly, is to take up his new job at Mullingar Greyhound Stadium next Monday.
Mr Cowen has been appointed sales, commercial and operations manager in Mullingar and said he was looking forward to the challenge.
And they insist it was not a Political Decision... Of course it wasn't:rolleyes: Perish the thought...

Failed estate agent name dropping a failed politician.
If these are the qualifications needed to secure senior management positions, what hope is there for recovery?
Does he even own a dog?

    According to the article
"I have an extensive knowledge and appreciation of the industry over many years," Mr Cowen, who also used to work in financial services, added.

He said that he has experience as a dog breeder and owner, but added he would still be keeping his auctioneering business.

So he does. I don't see how this is news.
Someone who has sales and industry experience \ knowledge went for an interview with 13 others for a sales job and got it.

Just because he's related to someone means nothing. Maybe he was just the best candidate for the job.

Try to keep the discussion political, please, rather than a series of lame jokes and clichés about politicians, or "oh no he isn't - oh yes he is" exchanges. Admittedly, I doubt anything else is possible given the subject matter.

What are you saying, that they only exert political pressure for higher paid jobs ?

Yet more proof that some people don't view realistic amounts of money as "worthwhile".

Here in the real world €35K is loads!

And given that it's only a part time job, obviously, it's even better money:
He said that he has experience as a dog breeder and owner, but added he would still be keeping his auctioneering business.
As the title says: "nice work if you can get it"...

Phew! That's OK so - if he's following in the footsteps of his FF cronies then one more part time job and he'll be able to "survive"

Lads, By all accounts he is qualified for the job and was selected during a normal selection process. . . Surely you wouldn't advocate disqualifying him from the job because his brother is Taoiseach ?

That would be the normal mindset to have, but given that he's an FF councillor in a party that actively supports nepotism, there's bound to be questions asked.
