Are Women Capable of Parallel Parking?

I was having a smoke today & watched as a young woman who spent about 3 minutes trying to parallel park a car. It was like watching Austin Powers. In the end, she just gave up & drove off in a huff.

Not the first time I've seen it happen either.

I mentioned this once to my missus, who said that she knew how to parallel park. When I challenged her to prove it, she said that she didn't have to prove anything to me. (Yeah, right!)

It's also not on the driving test, quite possibly because it could be construed as sexist.

    So is it actually possible?

Yes. In a green micra too.

Are men capable of not asking stupid questions?

    inb4 feminists (bar one).

Any time it's come up, it's deemed as a spatial awareness thing.

That said, I know many women that have no bother at all with it.

It's like one of these self fulfilling things, that you spot because you expect it, like swerving Nigerians.

Thing is, there are a lot of oldies on the road of both sexes who are a far bigger nuisance/hazard.

    Yes.

How would it be construed as sexist to be on a driving test?!

Well Ms. Green Micra did manage to parallel park, although a man could have built a car from scratch in the time it took her to do it.

So in answer to your question: yes they can, but not well.

All of the above is said in jest.

Oh FFS! No. Is that what men want to hear. No, us little wimmins are so, so frightfully unable to drive. Coulds you be a big, strong man and tell us how? We'd be ever so grateful and suck your c*ck every night for a fortnight.

Or, the truth; some women are terrible drivers. Some men are terrible drivers. Some women are great drivers. Some men are great drivers. Some crazy space monsters are terrible drivers. Some crazy space monsters are great drivers.

I've witnessed MANY a bad driver both of the male and female variety.

I think it's more difficult for women because their diddies get in the way.

    yes it is possible,

it was one of the first things i had to learn. I lived on a busy city center street where tight spot parallel parking was a daily must, i did have a man teach me how to do it his way though:o reverse and in 2 steps easy, and without making people wait! :D

so maybe thats why i'm a pro at it now:P, even bought a yaris cause you can parallel park it anywhere!;)

ps. I can parallel park most excellently, so not only is it possible but it seems to happen on a daily basis without the involvement of any men :)

Also if a woman and a man are sparring some nosy do-gooder will assume the man is attacking the woman and try to break up the "fight".

Its possible i've seen the opposite sex attempt it from time to time.

However, men are much better and quicker at it! Something to do with having better spacial reasoning i believe. Should be on the test i didn't learn how to do it until about a month after i passed my test.

    Yes, quite capable.

While we're generalising, men who go on about women's driving are the type who have notched up loads of penalty points. They tend to drive big w8nker mobiles and behave like aggressive arsholes on the road.

All because they were cursed with a small sausage.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,910 ✭✭✭✭RoundyMooney

On that note, I think it should be a part of the test. What better way to demonstrate control of the vehicle and awareness of it's size?

OK, it's not exactly a lap of Mondello, but you get the idea.

I did witness a woman trying to do a three point turn in a mini cooper. I don't know how long it took her because she was still at it when I left. Women like that make me want to stride over, break the window, drag them out and shake them until they get the message that they are giving women everywhere a bad name.

Having said that, I've been almost run over by a lot more males breaking red lights or not indicating than females. Although talking on mobiles is pretty evenly spread out between the sexes.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 10,910 ✭✭✭✭RoundyMooney

I'm on the road an awful lot, and have to agree with the lady with the grouch sig.

I'd add as I said, that old folk are a far bigger issue.

Anyone else notice less slick fringed goons with sh1tbox hatchbacks around lately? One upside to the depression.

Stupid generalising sexisit thread is stupid.
So a person who is not very good at paralell parking was parking and it happened to be a woman, so fúcking what.

This is where funding for scientific research should be funneled.

Are women more likely to fail at parallel parking? Anecdotal and scientific studies would seem to suggest several reasons why this may be the case, but nobody has actually studied it with a decent sample size.

I'm off to make a research grant proposal. :pac:

By the way, it's fucking, not fúcking.

Converse Fallacy of Accident or Hasty Generalization.

Saying that you saw one woman struggle at parrell parking and asserting that all women must struggle with it is like saying one man was convicted of rape ergo all men are rapists.

Not nice when the sexist shoe is on the other foot.

Again while they say some men are better at spatial relation not all men are better and there are some women who are better then most men. I have scored reasonable high at spatial relations and apprenlty daftly high for a woman. Your sexist skewed generialsations holds less water then a leaking sieve.

Which is worse, not being able to park properly but still trying to, or just arrogantly sticking your vehicle whichever way you like, half arsedly and abandoning it with your hazards on to make it 'all ok'.

He said he's seen it more than once, so that would assume it's at least twice, could be more that it has happened.

And then he posted a video oof a woman trying to park a micra, and doing it badly.

So that's three occurences, minimum, it could have been more, he never gave a definitive number on how many times he's seen it happen.

So you're assumption of a judgement being made on one sighting, is wrong.
