    Hi All,

What kind of areal do I need to pick up DTT in Wicklow town? I got rid of the one on the roof ages ago and don't really want to put another one up there.
Was thinking of sticking one in the attic. What orientation should I use?

    Thanks for the help.

Assuming your nearest transmitter is Kippure, Aerial Group CD, polarisation H

Not sure what an areal is but if you're looking for an aerial for DTT then I can help you out! ;)

In Wicklow town you can get DTT from 3 Rock, Kippure or Greystones, only the latter needs Vertical orientation. Signal is very strong and I can get perfect reception from an amplified set top aerial but I recommend one in the attic, any Wideband or Group C/D aerial will do. Of course there are one or two blackspots in the town where you would need an external aerial but if you let me know where you are I can confirm if you'll be all right or not.

Yeah, no problem in Glebemount, approximate direction of Kippure is North North West just to give you a starting point. Virtually any aerial will work here in Wicklow, I've used a second hand contract aerial in the attic and even gotten Greystones off the side of Arfon aerials (one in Harbour View), let us know how you get on.

Bought a 10 element Wideband in Woodies. Put it together, carefully followed the instructions.
Have tried to orientate it in all possible directions but getting no signal at all. Tried outside as well.
Not sure what I am doing wrong.
Do I need a 18 element or more?

    Thanks

    what decoder are you using?

I have a USB DVB-T stick connected to a Linux STB. I think I need to imput the frequency manually for the scan

Someone with more experience than me might be able to tell you what frequency you need if you have to enter it manually. My decoder has an auto scan. I assume the STB supports mpeg 4?

Oh yeah, I know it's working, just need to put in the correct frequency I guess for Kippure.

    Cheers

Can you check on an ordinary analogue TV to see that you're getting a signal of some sort from Kippure? e.g. TV3 on channel 62. A good TV3 reception would likely indicate that your DTT signal will be strong too. If it's snowy or non-existent even when it's outside, there's possibly an issue with the cabling or connections.

The frequency for Kippure DTT is 738000KHz I think.

    +1

Kippure DTT channel 54 or 738MHz

But try TV3 on a normal TV to set it up.
