OK , So I have a new idea for bands to promote themselves.
    It is called Bluetooth Advertising.
I want to ask all you Groups or solo artists what you think of the idea.
Basically I have a bluetooth unit that can send music files and messages to other peoples mobile phones.
The idea that I have is when you are at venue you could sent out either samples or full copies or your latest song.
It is very hard exactly to describe.
So i would like to meet up with somebody in the next few days to see if this could work.
    NO CHARGE

This is a brilliant idea... and that's from personal experience!
I have used this before with my band with a transmitter we had ourselves.
Not only did we use it at our own gigs but we used it everywhere we could (Work places, Train, Schools, Colleges).

After only a few uses we could definitely see the return, with regard to emails, new fans, etc.

I would recommend anybody to take a look at this as it is so easy and effective.

How does this work exactly? Assuming the receiver isn't bombarded without their knowledge and chooses to accept, then it is a good idea in theory.

If it's just a thinly veiled new form of Spam, well then that's a different matter.

It's good at a gig, as people there will generally be into your stuff. But setting it off at Train Stations, or other public places would only ensure I NEVER check that band out. As it is, walking down Grafton St is horrible with your Bluetooth on. You get bombarded by incoming spam. The North end (Molly Malone end) is particularly atrocious.

Any of the times that we used it we did make it known to anybody in the surrounding area who we were and what we were doing.

The transmitter we had only had enough juice to send stuff about 10-12 meters so it was easy to inform people.

I would never do it in a way that was considered SPAM, as this would (as you have said) probably turn me off a band if it kept happening.

It is permission based ( The person will see on their phone " Do you want to accept a message from ****** ".
So they either select yes or no.
If they select no they will not be asked again.
The unit I have can take Up to 21 simultaneous connections at one time.

saw people try to do this in London... it didn't really work...

seems like a better idea than it is in practice... at least it did at the time...
