This report, taken in the context of the media hysteria about the pensions of public sector workers, is a little revealing is it not? He has paid zilch for his pension or for his lump sum, and like the rest of his mob he has done his damnedest to ruin the country by group incompetence. If he was a director of a limited company the shareholders would have sacked him and the rest of them years ago, probably without any pensions or leaving sums.

Oh, he is being brave and honest in his criticisms of the government, and his resignation is laudable. But just maybe it's easier to be like that with an immediate pension of €94 grand a year and a huge lump sum, particularly when he can also go back to medical practice and add another hundred grand at least to his income. Might even be better off than he would be staying in politics. In such circumstances I think I might be able to convince myself to resign!

Compare that with a PS worker who has earned a small pension by paying a percentage of his salary throughout his service so that he can retire on half pay after forty years, and now pays an additional pension levy (and before the flaming starts, I am neither employed by or provide any services to the public sector).

The people of this country need to stop being fooled by the endless attempts to divide and rule, setting private sector employees against public, and to express their outrage at the greed and incompetence of the political classes.

its this kind of crap that puts the rest of the PS workforce into perspective.
its hard to accept a pay cut here, a levy there when the guys ruling the place get these kind of packages

I found this to be particularly galling:
And even though it was Mr McDaid who decided to go of his own volition, he will also scoop a severance package worth almost €60,000.

The Oireachtas Commission confirmed last night that Mr McDaid would be eligible to receive termination payments designed to help TDs who were suddenly out of a job after losing their seats.

Not only did he not lose his seat, but why should any TD get a sendoff payment? They are elected officials, and know they could go at any time. Not to mention their fat pensions.

Honestly, I do not think that there is ANYTHING in Ireland that you cannot get a subsidy or a public payout for. If somebody thinks of something let me know.

Can anyone tell me where these payments come from? Are they legislated for or just agreed by TDs among themselves? What about all the other perks like garda drivers for life for ex-Taoiseach?

Surely politicians pay pension conts, like regular public servants???

I see TD can get a full pension after 20 years service.

Legislated, or agreed among themselves = same thing.

They decide their own pay, or else a ctte decides it, and they sit on the ctte, somewhat like company directors.

    caps lock hurts my eyes.

You create a thread about something and act surprised by it? Where have you been living for the last 20 yrs in fairness. You'd swear this kinda thing doesn't happen on regular basis or something.

Now this LIFT that he had..? how much of it is he getting the 95k pension for? Can I invest in this LIFT?

I dont know about you, but yep I am outta my mind..

So basically we should all just stop paying tax?

Hmm. I'd love to see how that one turns out. (Although on the plus side, Bertie would have to fight off the Romas for the best spot on the ha'penny to pay for his car then :pac: )

OP Caps Lock key down, lack of punctuation, suggestion that people aren't going to take up - it's not going to go anywhere good.

There is a Ranting and Raving Forum if the sole point is to vent rather than start a discussion.
