i was out two weeks ago wth a shotting pal in a small punt after ducks, we had his lab with us.. shout a duck, n goes the dog, retrieves duck... now.. could we get him back in the boat??? a bit of a hairy moment... dog nearly drowned, we nearly drowned.. got me searching the internet,, i found a couple of american boat ladders, cant find any locally sourced ones.. so im in the middle of designing/building my own... talkin over a few guinnessess it was decided it should be presented on dragons den for a joke.. so we came up with "disemBARK" ha ha gedditt...

No. Nor will I ask if you were wearing lifejackets. But I know how difficult it can be for a human to get back into a boat, particularly when fully clothed. For that reason I always leave the ladder down on the stern of mine when it is on moorings, in case somebody needs it. You would have about 20 minutes max in duck shooting weather, before you faded.

Have you considered something really simple, like a sheet of 1/2 inch marine ply, about 4 foot by 1.5 ft, with a bit of carpet tacked to it? That way it could be hung over the stern and used as a ramp by the dogs.
