A lot of famers around here have them. They are very easy worked and easy on parts. I know 3 people who work them on MF 165s with no problems.

I have heard that the 130 chopper baler gives a lot of trouble and that it is best to avoid - but the non chopper shouls be a good buy.

Weve had one since new a very good baler. Just a pity we didnt get net and twine you couldnt get a baler these days that makes as hard a bale ;)
Once they are well kept they should be grand but the odd chain or bearing breaking is inevitable so being handy with a wrench is handy and necessary to speed up repairs. The whole lot of us are dab hands at changing chains at this stage :D

I had one for 7 years only ever broke down once when the pick up reel bearing went.A great baler, very noisy to work with but very simple in design and operation, like most balers the more power you have the better the bale.I think a minimum of 85-90 hp is required.

Check the bearings and the bars,
    a. if the bars are bent,
    b. look like they've been restraightened,
    c. there are a lot of new looking bars on an old baler,

then its had a hard life and someone has done a lot of maintenance to bring it up to an acceptable level -- thats not a bad thing except if they are trying to sell it as a "small farmers machine, shur it hardly even wore the paint off the pickup*" - I've seen a few of those when i worked for an agri contractor

    * = in general for any 2nd hand machine look for conspiciously new paint/parts on an older machine,
look for hoses/wheel rims etc sprayed a wrong colour - someone did a touch up job.
