Both top of their ranges, which would be the better buy for 2011. Both around the same price.

From those two, I'd take the S-Max.

Superb all the way, get an estate for maximum enjoyment.

Avensis has a nasty plastic interior, and is duller than a tin of magnolia paint.

I have been driving a top spec Superb for the last 6 months and its impressed me more than any other car I have driven/owned, and I have had hundred's.
If you can get over some of the small mindedness towards Skoda its a great car.

Top of the range avensis quite dull, and not fast enough. I'd have a legacy or the soupherb which has a nice interior and plenty toys. Insignia elite would have to be considered too.

Superb wins this in a canter, the new Avensis is a poor car on a number of counts. I think the old (Mk 2) Avensis is a better car actually. The diesel is quite noisy and sounds very harsh in the new model and the electric parking brake is in such a stupid position.

I'd have to say OP you really need to look at the revised Mondeo and of course the Insignia too.

Im almost afraid to ask what either of those 2 cars actually costs in top spec?

There is 3 specs for the superb of which the Elegance is the highest spec. That one is for just over 30k. Not sure if they do an L+K version of the superb. They do for the octavia.
Very very nice car. Don't know the avensis but it would have to be awesome to beat that superb.

The avensis is crap. Toyota simply dont know how to do quality touches. I was thinking of getting a Lexus GS450h and even that has a certain cheapness to it around the edges..
The 30k is nt a bad price.. I thought the OP meant TOP SPEC as in all the toys which I think brings it to within about 4k of a bmw 520d SE

Yes you can add to the elegance still. Leather seats etc, dsg costs a litte more too. Not sure what dearest possible version would be. I'd say I'd rather have a monster superb than a barebone 520. :o

31.6k list with the older PD engine 32.3k list with the CR engine

No L&K Superb listed in the current Irish price-list

The Superb, 170bhp is around €33k and the Avensis, 150bhp is around €2k more.

Plus a top spec super was on fifth gear recently and they voted it best estate car ever beating mercedes which was competition for title

    No don't think so
    Avensis vs superb
    Corolla vs octavia
    Auris vs fabia

    Isn't it ??

The Avensis 2.2 Luna is €1k cheaper than the Superb.

Still wouldn't have one in a month of Sundays though, especially over a Superb.

Can anyone explain why the top spec Avensis in Ireland is only available with a 2.0 litre petrol engine, and why the 2.0 diesel in tax band B is only available in the bottom three trim levels?
