Thinking of getting a Fiat Qubo 1.3 diesel second hand. Family man with 2 kids on a budget and from the reviews which basically say it's a van with windows but ticks all the boxes on economy and superb on space, most reviews say to steer clear of the petrol. Does nothing on styling or street cred but those days are far behind me. The wife will be the main user of the motor.
Anybody have experienc or an opinion on these, i have never owned a fiat butthey seem to have come on since the days of the tipo

Have you shown it to your wife? I suggest making a joking reference first to gauge how much she really hates it.

My dad has a 2008 in green. Aside from the color he is very happy with it (he is 75). He finds it easy to get in and out of, good visability when driving (hard to see where the front bumper ends when parking) and economical. I have a caddy life and three small kids and vouch for the joy of sliding doors when loading them in and out.

A very basic car but covers the basics very well.

In my case it's already on the list of "never turn up to collect her in one of these" cars!
I really like the idea of the qubo and the passenger version of the renault kangoo - a van when you need a van, but the option of seats too...

I'm with you, I get the functionality but if I showed it to SWMBO, I'd be shown the door. It's an ideal runabout, functional and flexible, maybe better in petrol if it's doing lots of short trips though with the particulate filter and all that malarky. I wonder if it will feature a twin air engine ever? Doesn't really matter, it would never be alowed in the Alias stable.

Edit: our Grand Scenic does the van role very well too, yet managed to pass the scrutiny of the herself indoors. I managed to get the flat packed frame of a set of bunk beds, along with two single matresses in, all below the window line. The drivers seat was back as far as it can go and while the passengers seat was tipped forward, it didn't need to be.

wife has submitted to the car(basically cos her other car is a banger and anything in comparison is better) Hates the colours but likes the practicality. So she will drive a Qubo and reiterate the mantra that she should have married a man who could have properly provided for her. Damn this recession-living month to month sure does filter the choices. So if anyone has actual reviews/opinions of the car and not tricks on how to sweeten the wife please post away

I will probably be attacked for saying this by the new cars good "old" (seems to be everything 5 years is considered for scrap here) cars bad brigade that seems to be very stong aroud boards.ie...

However, i will make this suggestion, why not find a reliable, cheaper older car for much less money (there are quite a few "old" cars that are still good), and put the money you saved into doing something for the house, or going somewhere nice, now THAT should please the wife more than having to accept driving a butt ugly fiat (which is a fiat after all, they're getting better but there's still good reason why people hate them).
