VW passat - 2 mths out of warranty 45000 KM. Particle filter went & had to replace which caused a sensor issue.. Cost €900. VW paid €300 towards & I paid the €900. 2 weeks later to the day went again. Its back with garage now & they say I have to pay the labour to have it looked at today .:eek::eek:Its the same problem unrepaired, same warning lights so what is my question did I pay for 2 weeks ago?
At the time I argued the fact its so soon out of warranty & why do I have to pay. Their answer was VW said I never had it serviced by a VW dealer. I have had it serviced regularly in a garage my Brother in law owns ( Free of charge) with only genuine VW parts put into it. They said irrelevant as hes not a VW dealer. Anyone else had a similar issue & what can they advise.
Fuming at fact have to pay another service charge today just to get them to look at what they didnt fix.

They should be standing over the work they did 2 weeks ago, your brother in law should be able to advise you if he is a garage owner.

Sounds like the dealer should be standing over the work they provided you 2 weeks ago. You should discuss this with VW Ireland?

Oh :o, that's not good. As the chap above said VW Ireland would be worth a call, no doubt that's what your brother in law would advise too :)

I had a similar problem with a VW Touran. The ABS control unit went just out of warranty after 40k miles and cost me €1500. VW Ireland wouldn't help as although 3 services had been done by VW, the first had been done by a SEAT main dealer.

I argued that SEAT is owned by VAG group but no joy. I took my complaint to VW head office in Germany and finally VW Ireland coughed up €300 towards the repair.

I understand that in UK then VW have a policy of paying the whole cost as this is a known fault with Golf models and derivatives.

Seems that VW are not as reliable as the adverts suggest and when they go wrong you are pretty much on your own.

Agree totally with last remark and sympathise with OP as I have gone though something very similar in the past with 05 Passat and recently with 07 model.
Both occasions were known faults and I was left totally exposed, first occasion was one month out of warranty (when it was Motor Dist. and MSL...nuff said).
Day to day running of VWs are good but when something does go, its always major and always expensive.
I won't be buying any more VWs. Would suggest to OP to go up north for major work, P&R in Newry.

While your private garage servicing is perfectly valid in relation to maintaining your warranty, it does weaken your hand when you try to get something from vw when out of warranty. Still in this case if you have the same fault again they should be paying for it however with modern cars things can get tricky. If there is something else wrong with your car that is causing the problem, well the dealer will do their best to prove its a completely new problem and unrelated even though they should have spotted it first time round.

I think its a disgrace a car with so little mileage has given these problems. Vw and Audi are getting a worse name reputation wise every day. I will not be buying one again. Skoda badge snobbery dont be long forgot about when you read the threads here everyday.

I have spent a fortune maintaining new Vw/Audi`s on stupid but majorly expensive parts..

I think VW/ Audi are among the worst cars to now own outside of warranty in relation to frequency and cost of repairs. I wouldnt have a newish BMW out of warranty either. Im sure skoda are no better.
My current Audi is out of warranty since april. Had a window regulator failure but compared to the many issues when under warranty, I figure Im quite lucky. Probably something around the corner!

Well mine is manual and just over 45k miles so I doubt that. Dealer attitude doesnt help either although Ive found parts guys in western motors galway to be pretty genuine.

Thats true. I have gave up on dealers down here. I deal a lot with Al Hayes now. They have great service.
