Can someone recommend the most up to date sat nav application for the iPhone, I have the Garmin Nuvi and I'm sick of it being so unreliable and having to hide it every time I'm parked.

    Thanks

I replaced my Garmin with the Navigon App, and have been very happy with it. There is also the Tom Tom App, but I have no experience with that one.

Do the sat nav apps eat up your monthly internet allocation?

IIRC they shouldnt, the maps are stored within the app and when in use they only use location services, which is free.
they do eat through your battery though :)

No. You have to be on a wifi network for the initial download, and then the maps are directly on your phone, you never have to use any data again. The Navigon does have a Google POI feature that needs to use data, but you don't have to use it if you don't want to, and if you do, it is just standard usage, same as if you did a Google search from Google's specific app, or the Safari app.

So what is the best one to use and how much dose it cost? I'm not too keen on the Tom Tom as my partner has the actual sat nav and I think its appauling in comparison to the garmin

The battery is not an issue as I will have the charger wired up and I've seen the ideal holder on ebay. Just unsure of what App to splash out for!?

I use the TomTom Western Europe. I've had a few of the others but like this best.

    NavFree I found very bad
On roads with no left /right turn. the NavFree was telling me to go
    down these streets.
At one point I was driving beside the canal and the arrow was in the canal.
And the house number never worked using address.

I used NDrive (€5) for a while. The maps were good but the directions were way off. It kept trying to take longer/slower routes no matter what I had it set to.

Decided to try the Navigon UK & Ireland (€25). I must say it's excellent. Search works well, routing is good. Interface is intuitive. The only regret I have is not buying the Europe maps. There's no upgrade path and it would have been dead handy to have in Italy earlier this year. I brought my old Garmin instead and it was pants (in Sardinia it had about 2 roads in total).

I have the TomTom UK & Ireland. The maps are very up to date, and I've had no problems with it so far. It's a little pricey at E64.99 though...
