my car will not start! I have had elextrical problems in the past like airbag light coming on for no reason - I got it fixed...and when I ahve to change a headlight bulb it doesn;t work again very easily...but now, it just wont work at all.

I tirn the key and the engine starts but then dies afgter about 2 seconds...nothing at all lights up on the dash!! It is with a mechanic now but Iam frightened it will have to go to a main dealer and cost me tons!!!!

Any advice on this awful car - I have had it since new and there have always been niggly silly problems with it!

I'd forget the mechanic and bring it to a good auto electrician.

Ive heard that lately, that the new Golf models from 04 on. Seem to have been built shoddily, like most brands it seems from news report over the last year? Half assed manufacturing to cut costs! Where has the Axis car company's production quality gone?

Does this mean that Nissan's in Sunderland are built by the Allies ?? :)

Just get a dictionary, shouldn't cost much.

    Simple stuff first.....battery\alternator?

Buy a battery charger, charge the battery and go from there.

Actually the Golf was vastly more expensive than all other cars in its class to produce according to VW themselves. If I recall correctly it cost 30% more to make than a focus hence the rushed redesign. The fact it was unpopular also helped to speed this process along

Car working again now - the cluster of clocks in the dash (speedometer etc) had to be taken out and put in a warm dry place overnight -when replaced the next morning, it started up immediately.

However, more electrical faults have occurred since....the rear wipers no longer work and the fan on the inside heater does not work....

Apparantly it is common for this to happen if it has been unused for a short while and stored outdoors in the rain.....what do you think???

Got the car back now and will get the other electrical stuff done soon when I can do without it again...or it may decide to let me down totally again - who knows - my trust in it is gone now

I'm not a VW fan but I have to say I lost my faith when my father's 99 Golf selflocked an unlocked itself at anytime of the day or night. One thing the family learnt was to always have the keys in your hand if you stepped out of the car.
