rent allowance ????

hi how do u go about rent allowence .first iv found a place that accepts rent allowence but how do i get it . and when like if i move in say dec 1st and the rent is 400 a month how long does it take for the payment to come thru .do i have to pay the full rent till i get rent allowence or ? and if so do i get what iv paid refunded to me as i couldnt afford to pay 400 a month myself .thanks any help is welcome

To qualify for rent allowance you have to have lived in private accommadation for at least 6 months. All info here.
