Anybody going to this? I just heard a plug for it on Lyric FM so went ahead and booked accommodation. It sounds really different.

Here and here is the guide to what's on.

I want to book tickets for the Vivaldi concert in the church on Saturday evening but there's no answer on the booking line at the moment.

Anything else to do around Ardee on a weekend? Any good walks? What's the best pub? Where can I find trad? And where would be the best place for a romantic dinner? Thanks.

Interesting, Ardee is a strange place for something like that, the town doesn't have a very cultured feel to it despite the obvious attempts to create that vibe.

Walks are very limited in and around the town, there is a walk along the river dee but if you manage to walk it without coming across some under age drinking or other anti social behaviour you'd be very lucky.

Plenty of pubs to choose from too but none that would be a traditional music pub, the Ferdia arms sometimes has trad music but its not a very nice pub in my opinion, the railway bar is nice for a drink and can be lively enough too, Muldoons is another option but again its just a typical irish pub with no outstanding features. There is others but I haven't been in them in ages so wont comment on them.

Food is another thing I don't associate with Ardee, although there is a good few restaurants in the town that look very nice, if you have a car and aren't drinking I'd recommend a trip to Dunleer to enjoy a meal in Carlitos, its nice great quality food that isn't too fussy.

Ardee is a town steeped in history and culture. There are loads of cultural activities for youths available and the Ardee Concert Band are renowned and travel globally to play their music.

What this looks like is to try and bring it to light a bit more. I think it's a brilliant idea, even if it's not something I'd directly have an interest in. Can't keep having the usual 'festivals' that orchestrate around the pubs.

As for food, I would agree, Ardee isn't great for it. Although I do love Fuschia House. Really nice food in there and if you like Indian food they specialise in that.

There is a point to be made for a counter to the usual "cultural" festivals which revolve around drink and pubs in Ireland.

I used to play in and attend a lot of Irish music sessions but lot of them involved a lot of travel and attending pubs. The days of drinking a few pints and travelling home on your transport are long gone........

I went to a Vivaldi concert once in Venice which took place in a church and the acoustics were perfect for the music of that era. Also the lack of noise and drink and other distractions was a pleasant change.

I wondered what Irish Music would be like if we had our cultural independence during that period and could have developed in formal and written way on the music of Carolan etc..which we had in the middle ages.

The Italians are tops in Music in my opinion.

I agree but unfortunately when in the town I just don't get that feeling that I'm in a nice cultured town like for example in Trim (I realise the castle would help a lot).

Which is a shame because as you say it has a really interesting past.

Sadly Ardee's history, although important, is not as well publicised as Trim's on a national scale. It has so much potential.
