tankless water heaters

looking for advice on replacing your traditional copper water tank with a tankless model (non gas). has anyone done this?

motivation here is saving money and space. oil fired central heating heats the water regardless - but it is only used in the sinks as we have 2 electric showers currently.

looking to move to a bath and shower combi but that would involve a bigger tank and wonder if anyone has explored this option - these heaters are recommended on various sites (mostly US - but these seem to be difficult to access in ireland)

    any help welcome

The only thing i can relate this to at the moment is a gas combination boiler where you heat the water rapidly as its used....

I have never seen this done with electric or oil.... Although i imagine it can be done with a fine mist of oil or kero but i have never seen it...

More examples or links would help..

I *think* there is an oil fired combi boiler, I've never fitted one tho

what about those tiny cylinders that have 6 or 8 coils in them and heats the whole tank in 10mins or something?

my setup is a standard copper tank with sink and bath immersion. the tank is too small to fill a bath tho.

i have been looking for alternatives and have seen this:

however, i cannot see irish suppliers or anyone saying that they are using them here...

There are various types of (tanked and tankless) electric resistance heaters available. For showers as well as for sinks.

i was wondering if the tankless heater:
    1. is available and "done" - it appears to be, so that is a plus
    2. can serve/ fill a standard/large domestic bath - (removing the need for a larger copper tank). i dont have gas currently (tho it is an option down the line). the literature on the UK site provided by astrofool points mostly towards serving showers (up to 3)...i have forwarded a question to them directly.

Think they were looking for electric as the OP's first post mentions non gas

If its electric then unless you have a three phase supply or something then your tankless water heater will perform only as good as an electric shower,
so in short no it wont be good enough for all of your house with electricity.

Its all about the flow rate you need by the temperature rise and the power input, if you can give these then we can tell you exactly how any
heater gas or electric will perform.

Your best bet would probably be an oil combi boiler
