Drinking and lost memory

    Hi
I'm in my 40s and for quite a few years now I tend to 'loose' a section of a night out of I have a few too many..
6+ pints and I cant really remember anything bout end of night in pub, going home, going to bed etc,..apparently I go home fine, always with my gf, tidy up, lock up, brush my teeth etc etc ...just no memory of it.....at all..

I had about 5 pints last friday staying in hotel. gf went to bed before me...dont remember going up to room or going to bed...at all...

Qute a few years ago I drove to pub with gf as it was lashing intending leaving car in pub car park...awoke next morning with car in drive, no recollection of coming home or end of night in pub. gf said I insisted on driving and that I seemed absolutely fine....

Going to limit it to 4/5 in future...but does anyone else experience this?

    Opinions???

    2 Options for you

    1. Stop drinking, it's clearly causing you brain damage
    2. Go to a GP, there is something up there, you shouldn't be blacking out after 5 pints.

Did you have a lot to drink the night before? Could it be that the alcohol is still in your system?

Go to your GP and get everything checked out. In the meantime don't drink at all. Perhaps consider giving up drink for good.

Is your memory average for your age when sober? Hard to answer I know but your GP could refer you to someone for a test. It might be comforting to know that your memory is ok so long as you don't drink.

    Thanks guys...

Curious though.. does anyone else experience this and if so is it only after a barrell load of drink??

Try drinking bottles. Its amazing the difference the extra 200ml in a pint makes to your drunk and the hangover the next day. Plus bottles tend to be less "variable" in quality.

I think blacking out on 5 pints is strange. Go to your GP and get checked out.

Everybody gets a little forgetful after a few pints but it tends to be just the details. I don't know my threshold for blacking out as it hasn't happened in a long time but it would be more than 5 pints for sure.

edit: +1 on the bottles too

Memory loss is a documented side-effect of intoxication.

I have a couple experiences. Some amusing; some frightening. I haven't drank to that extreme since I was a teen.

You need to cut down on your alcohol intake!

Driving home while being so drunk you cannot remember the drive not only puts your own health and safety at risk but those of every other road user or pedestrian on the streets...

What would happen if you woke up and noticed a dent or broken windscreen on the car and heard on the news of a fatal hit and run??

if you cannot handle a few pints then look into either giving up drink or maybe go to an AA meeting..

Dont mind all teh scaremongers telling you to go to an AA meeting etc.
When i train intensely this happens to me.Your body can be so fit that it breaks alcohol down much more efficiently and you end getting drunk quicker and easier.I had no tolerance becasue i hadnt drank in a while.

I used to get it a good bit and so does 80% of people i know. Its a fine linebetween your body disposing of alcohol and it building up in you.If you burn off/use up more alcohol than you take in you shoudnt experience this. You may be drinking way too quick and the blood alcohol level rises too quick to a level your brain kind of shuts down at,this is one of your bodies natural defenses against a rising blook/alcohol level....a shut down.

It would do you no harm to get a medical check up but memory lapse can happen after 3/4 pints depending on many factors ie body composition etc etc.Get check out by your doc and if nothing is wrong try slowing down and pacing yourself or swap every 2nd pint for a shandy.Do mental checks on your self while drinking and defo do NOT drive when drinking.

I'd have no problem drinking bottles over pints, but they're pretty much the same price as a pint and don't represent value for money, in fact they are a complete rip off.

    Thanks for that..

yeah I hear ya.. I'm kinda small and slim and wouldn't have huge tolerence for lots of food or drink..of any variety

Also I wouldn't be a very regular drinker..maybe a few pints one night a week maybe even ever 1-2 weeks..depends on whats on..

Gonna try bottles instead..I know they are a rip off but really would like to remember nights out :)

Just understand your limit. Identify that line that crosses over from having a good time to being not in control. Sometimes you don't always need a drink in one hand; sometimes you're buzzed up enough to skip a round or have a water or something.
