All these ebay stories are scaring me!

I have bought 40 to 50 times from ebay, without any problems. However I'd say it must be 3 years since I last bought anything.

I'm reading (mainly on Boards) that the scam / fraud occurances are on the rise and this is making me nervous of using it at all (for higher value items).

Is it still safe for the most part (where using highly positive rated sellers)?

In particular I am looking at buying a camera from someone like this:

    http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/digigood/

    or

    http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/trustsaleuk/

Can I take it that the likes of these are still more likely to be legit and reliable than not?

    Thanks.

Bear in mind, whilst you must exercise caution, paypal protection is excellent

All you can do is look at the seller's history, and read the details of the feedback (especially negative and neutral comments). If you're buying high-valued electronics, you'd be better off not buying from the US, which is where both of your linked sellers are based. Buy from within the EU. In fact, I wouldn't buy anything like that on eBay at all.

+1 to Jor El's post above, especially about buying high value items from outside the EU. You can get stung with 21% customs/other import duties in addition to the amount you pay for the item - if buying outside the EU.

We had a bad experience after buying a camera from eBay.com and it was shipped from New York.

We got caught for many extra charges , and the camera took some pictures with spots on them , but we could get no satisfaction from the sellers .

The 45 day claim rule was long gone and so were the sellers .

BTW , one of the sellers linked above has nearly 400 negative feedback - keep away from him .

eBay success is based on positive feedback left by both buyers and sellers

For what it's worth I bought a Nikon D90 from digigood this time last year. No problems at all.

eBay/paypal ALWAYS side with the buyer if any problems are to be found from my experience.

So I wouldn't worry to much when buying, but when selling is another story.....

Slightly off the topic but was wondering could anybody offer some advice on e-bay shops. I remember seeing something on TV a couple of years ago about a business that set up to sell things for people on e-bay. They did the photographs and listing and made sure any sale was secured and took a percentage of the sale as a fee. I have a couple of items, fairly expensive that I want to sell but I know I won't find a market for them in Ireland. It is not a laziness issue but more an ignorance issue of ebay on my behalf! As these items are worth a bit of money I would rather pay somebody who knows what they are doing than ship it off myself only to find I had made a stones of it! Does anybody know if these shops exist and if they do can they recommend a good one? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
