Your Blu-ray player, 7.1 home cinema set, HD TV, PlayStation3, Xbox 360 and of course your future 3D TV are completely worthless! If you don’t have the best HDMI cables, of course. Because to transfer all of your HD image- and sound footage in the best quality possible, you need the very best material. And you get that quality with this HDGear High Speed HDMI v1.4 Cables 2 meter Gold-Plated DuoPack. This double pack of cables will allow you to transfer every HD-signal quick and free of interference. The gold plated plugs ensure that. What contributes to the great quality of these cables as well is the double cable protection. Disturbances in your signal become a thing of the past with it. The cables are suitable for every HD image format. They’ll also pass through your Digital Surround Sound (THX, DTS and Dolby Digital) perfectly. That of course sounds very good and you’d be delighted to have this quality for every device in your house today. But as always, the future knocks on your door sooner than expected. In this case, it will be the new 3D TV’s that will be in a living room near you within the coming months. They’re however of not much use to you with the ‘old fashioned’ 1.3 cables. That’s where these 1.4 cables come in use, since they are the only ones with which you can pass through 3D images. And they’re also capable of displaying images sharp enough to cut your fingers on; 4096x2160p is the maximum resolution these cables support. Twice as sharp as the current HD products, so keep a pair of sunglasses at hand. Or your 3D glasses of course, because you could enjoy 3d thoroughly with these cables. So prepare for the future without missing even the slightest detail of your image and sound footage with this HDGear High Speed HDMI v1.4 Cables 2 meter Gold-Plated DuoPack!

I thought all HDMI cables were the same and that overpaying was to be avoided?
(I know build quality comes into play though ...)

Which is fairly important. I have bought a number of €1-€2 HDMI cables on ebay and a good 70% of them have just failed. I bought Lindy cables and they were relatively cheap. I paid €8 per cable and i have never had one fail.

Your better off paying €8 for something that will last a few years than €1 for something that lasts a few weeks.
There is no guarantee with cheap cables

Good article here about buying HDMI cables. Makes me sick to see people in Harvey Normans and the like pushing 80 euro cables at people who don't know any better.

Not entirely true. These cables are HDMI 1.4 which support those lovely 3D tvs. Can be hard to come by at a decent price.

They are kind of promising you the sun, moon and stars in a cable, well the sun at least. Amazing, a cable with a resolution.

It is all relative, if you are running your tv cable under the atlantic or powering up your personal MRI then industrial or medical grade quality and price is for you, however if you are connecting your not that long till its obsolete piece of consumer technology, go for something that doesnt cost a premium just because it comes in purple.

I buy most of my AV gear from Kenable, P+P is a bit high but you don't feel the impact as you purchase more, generally shipped within a day and with me 3/4 days after order. Been buying there for quite a while and actually surprised they haven't been mentioned on BA yet come to think about it.
BTW, purchased their 1.4 HDMIs for a 10M HTPC-Projector run and no issues.

I can remember when printer cables where £30 each retail. A little later they were 50p each if you ordered 100 or more.

One of the things that ruined SCSI for home users was the extortionate cost of the cables. You could daisy chain SCSI printers and scanners and drives long before USB was even dreamed of, but Joe public voted with their wallets.

I'll say it again, unless your equipment has gold plated sockets you are better off with standard nickel plated ones to match your equipment.

Gold is cheap. Or at least it is in the amounts used on connectors because it's the metal that can be used in the thinnest coatings.

Gold plating, shielding etc. make a difference when analog signal is being send (ie. component video HD signal).

HDMI is digital standard so the cables either work as they suppose to work according to specification or don't work at all. Monster cable worth €100 will give the same output as Tesco value cable worth €4 if they are the same standard (HDMI v1.3 or 1.4).

Also to add gold is great conductor, but it is very soft and wears off quickly.

im sorry but this is hogwash.
ive bought a many many HDMI cables, i literally give them away to any friends and family members. just saved my friend nearly forking over 60 odd euro to hardly normal for his new tv.

anyway all the cables i bought were between 1 to 2 euro, and not a single one has failed in well over a year. 8 euro is an extortionate price imho. if i lose a (~1 euro) cable every 2 years, my 8 euro's going to get me 16 years of blissful picture. im fairly certain hdmi will be replaced by then anyway. lightpeak and the like will have taken over.

shielding makes a difference all right
I still can't understand why alarm cables aren't shielded and twisted pair

Gold is a good conductor alright but Copper is better and silver is the best. No one uses Gold for it's conductivity when copper is far cheaper.

Yes gold will tarnish less, but having two dissimalar metals means you can have thermocouple effects and possibly some rectification if there is oxide present possibly even some electrolytic corossion if there is dampness.

if gold was useful then all equipment would have gold sockets

Fair play to ya, you answered the very question I was just about to ask!

I'd imagine relative to the cost of a brand spanking new telly, 5% of the cost towards a cable doesn't seem like much to some people. It's such a small thing but I respect the manufacturers who include the basic cables even though it should be standard!

    It is what it's.

ebay and hong kong is your friend. i havent bought off this guy yet myself, but it looks legit.
    should work out at ~€1.06

just remember, shipping takes a long time from there, and dont buy in bulk, because you could get charged customs. (ive never been charged before, and i buy from dealextreme and the like often, but murphy's law and all)

Just as a note, this is a HDMI v1.3 (which will not support 3D) cable.
