im refering to the 1992 movie with Gary Oldman, I was wondering if anyone can tell me what the blueflame like thing that the carrige carrying Jonaton Harker passes through before he enters the castle is? , it seems strange

I'm not sure. I think it's just what they thought was a fancy effect to represent him leaving the relative safety of the normal world and heading into Dracula's castle where there's nothing but danger (kind of out of the frying pan and into the fire, maybe?).

I don't remember it in the book anyway, so it could just be little more than an effect.

I always just took it as passing the point where Dracula's territory/world meets the outside world. The blue flame is just to highlight the change.

Basically once past the blue flame, Drac controls all, and his minions run free within that area.
