I was thinking that at the next GE any politicians that call to my door I was going to ask them to submit an up to date CV a cover letter and at least 2 reliable references as there are others applying for the same position.
I don’t think it’s a bad idea as they work for us  and not us for them .

I'd rather make the politicians pressure employers to remove some hoops potential employees have to jump through.

    And my eyes also hurt.

Just make sure to specify that they don't use the same font & font size that you use.

Nice idea in theory but realistically, you will be surprised to know that a lot of Irish politicians are well read and can easily come up with at least 10 character references if you want it.

For instance, Brian Cowen is a qualified solicitor and has held several positions in government over the years, likewise, Brian Lenihan was a first class law student all through his education which includes University of Cambridge and has held several ministerial positions since 2002. Based on your criteria, these will be well qualified folks.....

In politics, it has nothing to do with a CV or references (just 2??) that matters, it is listening, questioning and appraising policy from candidates and identifying if they are generally alligned with your perspective of how the country should be run.

If we use your yardstick, most of the present politicians will end up back in their office after the election tbh....
