Airport security - jug kettle in hand baggage ?

Hi. Just wondering would anyone know is it ok to bring an (empty !) jug kettle along with its plug base that it sits on, through airport security for a flight to spain ? I'm only travelling with hand baggage (normally I would pack it in a suitcase), and I wonder will it be OK ?

I don't have its box or anything so I'm planning on just stuffing it with socks and wrapping it in clothes. Also planning to bring a mug, spoon and small bag of powdered coffee and milk. Do you think these will be OK ?

    cheers for any advice.

Why not buy one at the other end? I assume you are doing this for water purification purposes.

yes - thats a good idea. But I was hoping to bring one I already have though.

Doubt there will be a problem with the kettle. They allow other electrical appliances hair dryers etc. The milk on the other hand may be a problem, it has to be under 100ml and be separate from hand luggage in a plastic bag. I would say get that over there considering you'll be a good few hours traveling.

They do have stores in Spain I believe that sell stuff like coffee, milk etc:D I think its a bad idea to bring the coffee and milk, coffee is used in drug smuggling to hide the scent of drugs from sniffer dogs. You could end up on the receiving end of a very thorough security search.

Would the kettle not be considered a container and therefore in breach of the 100ml rule?

Only if it has more than 100ml of liquid in it i would imagine.

Doesn't matter how much liquid it contains, it's the capacity that's the issue. You can't bring 50ml of water in a 500 ml bottle for the same reason.

the point is there will be no liquid in the kettle. yes its ok to say you can't bring 50 ml of water in a 500 ml bottle but the kettle is going to be empty therefore where is the breach. the powder however may be a problem as someone said coffee is used for drug smuggling and powdered milk, white powdered milk, white powder, nice comfy security search, could you step into this side room please, cut to the sound of a rubber glove snapping, nuff said:D:D:D:D

Don't forget the hang sangwiches and the taytos as well. BTW milk, coffee etc is cheaper... much cheaper in Spain... Unless you're planning on setting up a Coffee Stall on the Plane? O'Leary will be looking for rent!

I go to Portugal quite a lot (Eastern Algarve) and a jar of Maxwell House or Nescafe is generally dearer (probably 50-60c dearer) than here but its still easier to buy a jar there than bring stuff from here and I love wandering down to the seafront of a morning for coffee and toast (Portugals local bread is incredibly good). I just don't understand the mentality of people who go to another country and feel they have to bring "everyday" stuff with them.
