School the day after Halloween

I cannot remember ever having school the day after halloween! but things have changed as many schools are open on Monday.

I was hoping to take my 6 year old trick'r treating around 6 o'clock, and then to see a bonfire somewhere around 8pm. but to get him home for a shower to get the makeup off (he's a zombie this year) and in bed around 9 makes it a very long day for a child that needs to be up at 7am for school.

The fact that some schools are closed makes it very unfair for the kids that have to be up early the next morning. Surely their mid-terms could have being organised to include this important day for all kids! Rant over! :)

Holidays are set by the DES, not schools. Some schools have been told by the local Catholic patron that they HAVE to close on the 1st as it is a holy day.By and large, schools will be open though-it's not up to the individual school .

Likewise no primary school would chose to remain open until 23rd of Dec, not fair on small children.

Not the fault of schools. It was mainly to do with how the Bank Holiday weekend fell (Monday 25th). Schools are closed for a week so were due to reopen on Monday 1st. Some schools were instructed to close on 1st (not because it's the day after Halloween but because it's a Holy Day of obligation)

Surely it would have been better for everyone if the Bank Holiday was the 1st of November?

The schools would most likely have had their mid-term next week so people like the OP would be happy and Catholic schools would not feel the need to take an extra day.

Also, there would likely be less losses for businesses from the inevitable hangover sick days tomorrow!

Bank Holiday has always been fixed for the last Mon. in Oct.

Bank Holiday has always been fixed for the last Mon. in Oct.

So the bank holiday is the 24th next year?

Since school holidays for next year are not yet agreed, nobody will know for sure, but does this mean there will likely be school on Halloween next year?

Edit: Just realised the bank holiday will be 31st next year, sorry! So should be day off anyway!
