really curious on whether all the darts pro s have a couple of pints to calm their nerves for a game.... i wonder is the way forward to do it without a beer... i hear our own william o connor doesnt drink at all, and klassen and tony eccles also....there is no other sport that players use having a pint as an aid to improve their game....what about taylor ?
would love to hear opinions on this ? and whether this is the reason why darts is not considered a sport instead of a game or should we just accept it is a pub game......

I'd say most pros have a few drinks before they play to ease the nerves. At the end of the day all of today's pros probably threw their first competitive dart in the pub and IMO drinking and darts go hand in hand so I don't see a problem with players having a drink before they play.

Tony Eccles does drink my friend. He started drinking vodka earlier this year.

taylor drinks wine supposedly. was talking to wes newton in killarney and he has 3 pints before he plays. doesnt drink any more then while hes playing thats his limit. lots of them drink shorts though so people miht think their drinking coke r something but theres more than coke in them glasses. One of the lads saw v van de voort fill a pint glass with vodka down killarney last year

Many snooker players drank more than their fill.

Drink has cost many a good dart player a lot of cash.... The way forward is to not drink, then you wont suffer the same problem.

In reality it goes two way

If you cannot get rid of the nerves without having a pint or two, then you need your drink to play. This is fine

If you can settle into a game and play without bad nerves all the better.

Just bear in mind, if you start a habit of a pint with the game of darts it will be with you permanent. You won't be able to play without it.

I play without, I'm slowly but surely getting there nerves wise, but it's taken me playing in two league a week (Tuesday and Friday) to help settle me more.

I'm only now starting to play more like I can, still a few double problems but I'm working hard now on putting it all right and hopefully start making a name for myself

I'm sure some use beta blockers too. I know it was rumoured that some top golfers use them so why not darts?

There is a no drink rule in darts while players are on stage and that even includes minerals. Only water is permitted and that is provided.
I recall a few years back a player in the PDC claiming game in a floor tournament because his opponent brought a glass of coke on stage. There was history between the two players. I cant recall names but it was only 3-4 years ago. I will try and find article again.
