Turbo Timer??

Heres a question for the petrol heads :)

I picked up my new (second hand) car this morning, its a 00 subaru wrx, and it has a turbo timer. So my question is, how long should I have the timer set to???

Now bear in mind when i am driving I try not to be on the turbo when driving normally to save petrol. The engine is upgraded with a massive front intercooler, dump valve, induction kit, ECU and I suspect that its running a high pressure in the turbo (due to the big incooler fitted, why else fit it??).
I know very little about this stuff. It has a HKS timer type 1 (I think).

Any help will be much appeciated.

(Ill post pics of the engine bay if it will help)

general driving, 30 seconds is more than enough imo.
spirited driving 1 minute maybe more but not much more tbh.

had my evo set for 30 seconds all the time and simplt drove the last few mins home off boost.

ok, cool, thanks for that. I have it set at 30 secs now. But a mate was explaining the reasons behind a timer and kind of freaked me out about the turbo destroying itself :) So i thought id ask to be on the safe side.

If you take it easy for the last few minutes before switching off then you shouldn't need it at all.

Ok excellent, was concerned that if someone went to the trouble of putting a hugh intercooler on it that meant it was crazy tuned and would have to run the timer for about 5 mins or something*, which would be very impractical.

*before you ask, yes, I have had a few drinks and am talking stupid

If that were my car i'd start off by finding out exactly what was done to it. I've heard far too many stories about poorly-remapped cars running lean and shredding pistons.
