You have just completed the Dublin Marathon but where do you go from there? You have kinda got the bug for running and want to keep it up but dunno where to go from here. Another marathon is too much of a time commitment, while you may look to do it again next year.

Given the fact that the activity around DCM time always seems to be the highest i was thinking about possibly setting up a continous mentoring thread right through the year to keep people in the sport. This will focus around shorter races (perhaps 5k-10 milers) with target races being agreed to keep people going and motivated. This will be open to all levels from beginners upwards for anyone who wants and the schedule will allow for varying levels of difficulty depending on your level.

If other boardsies want to get involved perhaps we could get different people to take different aspects (hill running schedule, middle distance, cross country etc)

Could also look to arrange group training sessions on a regular basis in varying locations to keep people motivated helping to push each other on

This is just an idea that popped into my head (as a result of the ultra running mentoring idea) as alot of people tend to do nothing between marathons and might be a way of improving consistently making the marathon alot easier next year or just to do shorter races.

Would anybody be interested in this either mentoring or being mentored and guided?

The very first BAC thing on here was mentoring for a 10k and it went really well. A rolling set of mentored races through the year would be good but getting the level of training right would be a challenge as you'd probably have a very diverse group

Training towards the aware 10k would be great. That's the thread amadeus is talking about I think. Aware 10k is 6 weeks away now so it's perfect timing to get one set up this weekend.

Sessions would be based on personal pace for example say 2 min @ 5k pace or 400m s at 10k pace etc. Plans would also try to be designed to keep people together (or atleast in a group) so that people wouldnt be isolated regardless of ability (bit difficult but there are ways to do this without compromising peoples training)

Again it is still in the thought process stage but just putting out feelers to see if there would be enough interest to warrant something.

Where is the AWARE race on? I did a mizen 2 Malin cycle challenge there early this month for AWARE for my best mate who is 10 years dead next week from suicide, it would be nice to get another event to raise a few quid.
