I had a punto...it died despite having low milage and being well looked after.

    Skoda Fabia?

The main thing I want is for it to be 1.2 or under so I can get it insured..

Not a fan of the puntos they seem to break down a good bit.

Not really, no worse than a lot of other cars with a bullet proof reputation

What about an old 3dr Mitsubishi Colt?

I'd go with the Ford Fiesta 1.25 litre, should be able to pick up a 2002 old shape Ghia model for €2k these days. Plently of toys that were almost unheard of in a small car back then such as air conditioning, cd player and alloy wheels. 1.25 litre engine is a little gem, mechanically simple and parts are plentyful and cheap, just seek out a clean, low mileage example that has had a quiet life as a second car for school runs or trips to the shops.

8 valve punto engines are remarkably reliable. its just most people go for the 16v because theyre more powerful, but ****e. the only thing that goes wrong with a punto (for the most part) is the head gasket going and thats only cos people dont drive them soft when their cold.

Is 1.2 16v in punto, the same as ussed in bravo/brava ?
If it's the same - trust me - that's one of the fiats most reliable engines from end of 90's beggining of 2000's.
