If a BE bus can go to UCD or Stephen's Green in the morning.

Why can't it do a return journey in the evening.

Since if people want to go their in the morning would it not mean they would want to go home from the same spot in the evening (Within reason)

This is an old problem - most people arrive at work/college at the same time, however their departure times can vary wildly, and others can get lifts home. The result is that numbers specifically at a particular time may not be that great and as a result tend to be more spread out.

Understand what you are saying but having a bus or 2 around between 4-6 should be sufficient.

I was thinking it could be DOT issue

Sufficient for what though? Transporting a small number of passengers at best, extending one or two through the peak hours will still leave most passengers with a quicker journey by walking/city bus to to the regular pick-up stops and getting the first available bus.

There are a few routes that have extended cross-city pick-ups in the peak. The 101X and the 100X both start from Leeson St bridge and the 126 Naas/Newbridge has 2 departures from Kildare St via SCR and Crumlin at 17.20 and 17.40. The 17.40 starts from UCD at 17.00 during term times although it will often get to Kildare St before the 17.20 has left and transfer passengers to the earlier departure.

There may be DoT issues - you'd have people board at say Lesson Street and decide to get off at Busáras, a trip that is exclusively within Dublin Bus's remit.

On a more practical basis, you just might get the odd few people getting on the wrong bus and other passenger handling issues, that are better handled at Busáras.

That is bang on for sure, I often see this too, thats why morning peak is always far busier than afternoon peak, you tend to find that morning peak everyone is rushing around at roughly the same times, but it's a lot more spread out in the evenings for sure, not in all cases, but in a large number for sure.

School children tend to start school between 0830-0930, and finish somewhere between 1230-1700, thereby moving them out of the evening rush hour. Despite that, the evening rush hour tend to be longer and busier.
