Deposit given for a wedding

    Hi,

We were very happy last week to book our weeding venue and put down a deposit of €1000. The wedding will take place in 8 months time

When I called home to give the good news, loads of people started to back down and it doesnt seem they might be able to come. Some have long distance to travel in fairness. I wish they didnt say they were coming in first place. Though that is another story

The contract states Deposit non refundable. The contract was signed last weekend, less than 7 days ago. I was wondering if there is any legal provision, legal template that I could use, time frame I need to be aware of, to claim the refund back or if you think I will have to forfeit it

Any advice would be much appreciated.
    Regards,
    j

Your deposit is non-refundable 'but may be transferable'. Get on to the venue asap with a date that you want instead. Work work with them to get a date that suits you. Why wouldn't they facilitate a change of date ? After all, they want your trade, and you're eight months out here so you have time to work with them, but the sooner the better.

If you are looking to change venue, you havn't a leg to stand on, they can keep the deposit.

Call your contact with this place, and try and sort out a new date, as soon as possible. If you leave it any length of time they can legitimately say that they turned down other bookings for your date etc., and hence keep your deposit.

    Hi,
The date is not the problem. The guests are the problem. They will not come. I might have to cancel the wedding venue. So I will have to forfeit the deposit.

    Correct.

You can but ask however, and the sooner the better.
