Well guys just wondering what ye think of the winter fair.

Im looking for some replacement heifers,i was thinking of buying there because i would know the breeding and some history(AI bred ect)

Is it a gud place to buy stock, some people say they do be very well fed

    Thanks

I was looking at the prices for Limousins at the recent Limousin Premier sale in this weeks Journal. They are meant to be the pick of the crop.

Are they a case of 'overpriced and over fed' too.

I have always bought 1 or 2 heifers at the carrick winter fair. Would never be looking for prize winners - more a good quality heifer. To be honest, you get what you pay for - Heifers that I paid EUR 1200 for will always have a Eur1000 weinling.

You need to have your head screwed on when you're buying there. There are a lot of guys expecting big money for heifers that are just blown up with Showbiz Turbo that will never be suitable for breeding. But if you're serious about buying and know what you want you will pick some good ones out and I have always thought that I got value for money.

    That's my experience anyway.

Usually yearlings. Bought black limousins last year and the year before. They weren't over done. Great to breed with the Belgian Blue after the first calf.

Definitely U grade, but as i said in an earlier post, you have to choose carefully and not buy the overdone ones.

There usually is a good selection in carrick. Catalogue will be available online I'm sure
