Probably a slightly dodgy pump for the central heating's water flow. The carbon brushes on the motor could be dirty etc. Something anyway is most likely causing sparking which can and does cause interference to TV signals. The interference can be very specific for some frequencies.

E.g. when my housemate charges his shaver, there's constant popping around 91MHz which fecks up 2fm for us all, both from Kippure and Three Rock Mountain. Nothing else is affected on the radio or TV.

    Could also be the thermostat.

Is the interference there all the time the boiler is running or only when its starting up ?

Wait til you see DTT and the use of indoor aerials and the effect an electronic cigarette lighter has!

I assume RTE is VHF. If I'm right the boiler installation is causing interference on VHF and not UHF.

The best fix is to trace the exact source of the interference and suppress it. Is the aerial lead double screened satellite grade cable or ordinary cheap coax? If so replacing the cable may help. No outlet plates or flyleads I hope. All these can let interference in.

so that would may fitting rfi suppression
coule be when the boiler's firing

the coax may also be 'paralleled' with the boiler supply cable out the back-i'd have to check

The thermostat would only cause sparking when it "operates". It's essentially a switch so any arcing will only be when it's switching on or off.

I interpreted the post as saying that the interference happens while the boiler is running, not just when it's switching on or off. Could you confirm this M cebee?

Can you also confirm what aerials are being used and where exactly you pick up your RTE and BBCs from?
