I'd like to hear some suggestions for locations in Dublin where hill training can be done. I've only been to two:

    Knockmaroon Hill
    Incline: Very Steep
    Length: 400m

    Kyber Road, Phoenix Park
    Incline: Flat - Medium
    Length: 1km

Depends on the length of hill you are looking for and the extent to which you can travel from the city centre. Killiney and Howth have options. Just beyond Firhouse and Sandyford you can take your pick.

Thanks for the suggestions, SJ. The longer the hill the better. Distance from city centre isn't a problem.

Chapelizod hill Rd is a great one. It is only about 300m long but it is really steep.

I did this tonight and you've the option of heading up further towards cruagh or the hellfire club.

Woddle, is there danger from traffic on that route, night time or daytime?

You'd be grand during the day, I've been running up and around here for sometime now and have never had an incident, very little traffic.
I ran this tonight and it got very dark but I had my flashing leds on and again very few cars but I'll stick to day time.

From Under the M50 Bridge at the back of marley park up Kilmashogue lane and to the top of three rock on the fireroad would be a good long one. There's a little bit where it flattens off but not much.

I did this one last week. Just keep an eye out for bears.

    A typo, thanks!

One of my favourite long(er) runs whilst in Dublin was catching the DART out to Howth and following the road clockwise around the peninsula and back into town. A sporting climb of about 1.3miles at the start but knowing that it's a doddle once you've reached the top.

For short hill reps someone suggested the nature reserve out beyond Irishtown (though as far as I could tell the 'nature' consists of rats and seagulls.) :)

There's not much in the way of hills out in Irishtown nature reserve. I ran it twice last week and as you get to the Poolbeg end there's a little hill you go up before going around to the left. You can then continue on around by the station itself or loop back through the grassy area but unless you're looking for some very very short hills to do loads of reps on there's not much there at all.

Muc there is also this one, Strawberry Beds, about 1100m

    http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&safe=off&client=safari&rls=en&q=strawberry%20beds%20dublin&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wl

When I was doing hill reps during the summer I did a figure of 8-including, Knockmaroon, S bends and Kyber. When I'm doing hills again I will include the Strawberry Beds too......this was for cycling reps obviously!

You'd want to be pretty rugged to run Rugged Lane! It looks like a good challenge, but I'd be worried about traffic.

Bray Seafront to Windgates on the Greystones Road by road (footpaths all the way as far as I can remember)
Greystones Harbour to Windgates by road (coming from the other direction) 1.2 miles. This is climbing to the same height in half a mile less - Its a killer.

The views are incredible on the crest of the hill on a clear day.

You can also run the cliff walk to the same point but the terrain is a bit uneven.

milosh that cliff path is a nice run until you get to the massive construction site at the Greystones end. Spoils it a bit to say the least :(

Very challenging hills in Rathmichael Wood & Lead Mines. Apparently the Dublin Way passes through the area which would be an ideal hill training route.

Incline: 55 metres (18 metres to 73 metres altitude)
    Distance: 2km
