I can presume what the answer will be that Protein Shakes are superior to bars immediately after working out due to the quick absorbtion but can you substitute the shakes post W/O with Protein Bars? Would they be a good alternative?

You don't have to do either. Get home and eat a meal instead.

Supplementation is grand if you're in a hurry, in which case I'd go for a shake before a bar. This is mainly because I've never tasted a protein bar that wasn't gank.

Have you read Wills guide to pre/post workout nutrition in the stickies?

Bars are pretty bad, the protein content is never that high, and they might say zero carb but they oftenm have artificial sweetners, while not technically carbs, they contain calories just like carbs (i'm not talking about calorie free sweetners)
