I'll be doing some thing along the same lines. I'll give mine a chicken leg and thigh and let them rest for an hour or two:D

saw a vet reccomend half a mars bar on a video on youtube before.
as for the tripe i was told not to give dogs tripe as there is some bleaching done on it to preserve it which aint good for muttly.

You can buy tripe in its natural state i.e. Green and minced with chicken, bought 60lb of it last week great stuff, thats what mine will be getting but only a small portion, plenty of water and a bed of straw in the trailer.

you have no idea if that video was serious.
I'd never give a dog chocolate, seeign as dogs are severely allergic to cocao, as it it can kill them.

Fully agree with Mellor on this one. It is extremely bad to give a dog chocolate of any kind.

i am by no means advocating the mars bar, only saying what i saw.

i will however say this. we had a dog here for many years, she came everywhere with us as kids and she wolfed down many a bar of chocolate and one christmas got into my bros room and wolfed down his entire selection box. never caused her an bother.

before the onslaught of cross words and links to pet health sites come. i know that dogs can be allergic to it and i can assure you that i dont practice this now with any of my current mutts, but who can hand on heart say that they have never owned a dog who hasnt chomped down a piece of chocolate at some stage in its life.

Ya both my dogs have had chocolate at some stage. Before we knew that it was bad for them i used to give them a choc bis going to bed! However now i know its bad for them i would never give it to them so they get a plain bis going to bed instead.:D

Some dogs can go into Hypoglycaemia which has to do with a low blood sugar i think. This is why people give them a mars bar in the field.

In the world of field trialling a number of handlers use part of a mars bar for the dogs & drinks that are basic energy boosters, however things are tightening up on some of this in the UK & as a basic rule it is dangerous to feed a dog chocolate, its possible a mars contains less chocolate than some others chocolate bars but it would be unwise to try feeding this to a dog that’s not been used to it & in the circumstances of a shooting day could be a bad move.
A dogs fitness & diet should be sufficient on a healthy animal to give reasonable performance & it’s the intake of the 24-48 hours before that will be of much benefit, on the day if you do give an extra feed try not over loading it in to much bulk but liquids are essential. Safe Hunting:)
