I've had to move in with my brother&his mrs after I broke up with me OH.
Ive had to sign on & go to the community welfare officer. Trouble is I can give her all the documentation she wants but she wants a letter from the landlord stating i'm living in the apartment, but I cant get that as the lads rent would then go up accordingly as i'm not supposed to be here and i'm not on the lease. Im payint them 150 a month to be here and i've no money at all coming in from any direction. really wretched situation.

Anyone any ideas how to navigate this?

Tell her? This situation is going to make things tricky. You need proof of address for the dole too and I don't think they'll have much sympathy for hoodwinking the landlord. I'm not judging - that's what I think their perspective may be.

Not tryna hoodwink them at all, the dole were cool with all the documentation presented, just this particular woman was a bit of a hard case and said it has to be from the landlord. she wont back down. probably going to be waitin til after christmas for any kinda payment now then. thanks anyways.

Hoodwink the landlord I said, which, in fairness, you are, though I understand the circumstances.

You do tend to be at the mercy of the requirements set by your CWO and she has every right to check that you are living legitimately at the address you provided. I'd explain the circumstances and see what she said. It can't be worse than not getting any money which is presumably what will happen if you can't provide her with what she needs.

its actually none of her business what the circumstances of him living there are. as long as he can provide a bill addressed to the house and a letter from the bill payer stating he lives there that is considered sufficient proof of address and she is legally bound to accept it . we are in the social welfare offices anyway so i see no reason why it should be any different for the CWO. most of the time they like to lord around with there power but you'l find there is always someone higher you can go to if you have a problem with them

You could always get a letter from your brother that you are staying with them for the forseeable future...This has worked for me in the past...

    Best of Luck!

    Hey sue,
got that exact letter for the SW and they were completely fine with it, but the CWO isnt having it at all.. had an interview the other day, rang the CWO but left a voicemail explaining i couldnt come down. a different CWO rang me back and i explained the sitution to her, she says if i explain the situation to my cwo she should be fine with it, but she wasnt at all..dunno what to do..no money now for the next three to ten weeks til my dole gets decided on. surely there has to be a way round it? is the cwo being unreasonable or do i just have to swallow it?

Maybe ask to speak to the Superintendent Community Welfare Officer? That's what citizens information advises if you aren't happy with a decision. From what the other posters have said it sounds like you have a strong case.
